Well match number one (as has been reported elsewhere) was a walkover i.e. opponent didn't turn up, and match number two v ULU we won, 9 - 6, although I wasn't playing. You can only enter 13 people i.e. 7 starting line-up and 6 reserves, they had 7 experienced players and chose (supposedly randomly although I'm not sure I beleive Bridge on this) 6 of the novices as subs. But really they only used the starting 7 and gave the subs about 2 minutes play each, it was quite funny because from spectating we could see that it was every time ULU scored a goal all the novices were replaced by the good lot until we scored a goal! It was like "argh, they're catching up, quick get the novices out!"
Then in the evening we had two college league matches (we play in the college league even though we're a uni team) against Girton and Churchill (and Girton to play against Churchill too). But Churchill didn't turn up... this walkover thing seems to happen a lot... anyway, we just played Girton. Three of our players were playing for Girton instead, because any uni players have to play for their college if it's uni v college; I suppose this makes it fairer otherwise the college just loses it's best players... Soph was in goal for the first half and I was playing out field (i.e. not in goal) which was just ammusing because I've not done most of the outfield stuff in training, I've been doing goalie stuff! Anyway, we were winning by the end of that half and thay put me in goal for the second half which is where it kind of went wrong because I was a bit useless; anyway we drew in the end, 6 all. But in training this morning I managed to save harder stuff than a couple I let through in the match! Which is just frustrating. I suppose I panicked... Anyway, all is well and good since they were still teaching me goalie stuff today so obviously I didn't do so badly that they decided not to bother!
Oh, something else ammusing; when I was in goal Soph was playing out field, and at the end of the match she said "Well that gave me a chance to have a go at out field, it's quite fun actually..." At which point Bridge practically pounced on her and said, "No! Don't you dare! You're staying in your cage, we need you there..." :-) !
Next match is in two weeks, Sunday 13th Nov, v Manchester.

Why thank you! i'm also going on water polo tour to Calella (in Spain) in January, I've read last year's tour report and it sounds *amazing*, the report's really funny too, go to www.cuswpc.org/polo/tour/ to read it if you're interested, it's great!

We played 'Victorian Water Polo' in training this morning which is basically water polo without the rules! You can be just about as violent as you like! It's James's plan to get us to be 'more physical' in matches and generally be nastier rather than nice! It was really funny, I was in goal and so had a great view of the many battles going on with people sinking each other, kicking off each other, standing on each other to get the ball.... Only problem is, sometimes I was too busy laughing to remember to save the goals...

No. I did save some though! The rest of the team have a habit of randomly clapping or saying 'good save' at for completely random golas some of which were easy to save! And then not for some of the difficult ones. But in that session Sophie was sitting out because she's hurt her leg (that's why I was in goal all the time) and of course she knows which ones are hard to save, so a Sophie clap is knid of better than a rest-of-team clap and I got a few Sophie claps so I can't have been doing too badly!

It was the match v Manchester today! Again I wasn't playing, I won't really get much chance to play in matches because they'll obviously play Soph in goal as long as she's not injured, and there's very little point playing me out field since I haven't a clue what I'm doing! Final score was 13 - 12 to them, it was very close all the way through the match. They're a good team, they have one of a pair of identical twins both of whom are in the GB team! The actual result of that match didn't really matter as it was just a friendly, what does matter is that they played Oxford the week before and drew with them, so it was kind of an indirect Varsity match! Bridge's conclusion of the match was 'So Oxford are good this year then'! I think last year the swimming and water polo Varsity tournament was 3 -1 to Cambridge, with us winning men's and women's swimming, and men's water polo, but them winning women's water polo! We're aiming for cleansweep this year though it looks like it won't be easy!

Oh, forgot to mention - the other one of the pair of identical twins swims for Oxford... Anyway I'd better go to bed now since I have to be up in seven hours for water polo training,

These three e-mails just appeared in my inbox in quick succession: ___________________________________________________________________________ Guys the link below is to put your names on the wiki for thursday. Stop emailing me. www.cuswpc.org/members/wiki/index.php/page=World+Championship+Semi+and+Final+at+Jesus&thankyou=1-- To be removed from this list email bfr20@cam.ac.uk ___________________________________________________________________________ Sorry I dont think that was the right one...try this, www.cuswpc.org/members/wiki/index.php/page=World+Championship+Semi+and+Final+at+Jesus-- To be removed from this list email bfr20@cam.ac.uk ___________________________________________________________________________ Balls to it, you all know the wiki anyway. -- To be removed from this list email bfr20@cam.ac.uk ___________________________________________________________________________ Which greatly ammused me. By the way, if you didn't know, a wiki is a web page which you can change instantly so it can act a bit like a message board. I'd never heard of one until coming here, but everything to do with water polo happens on the wiki! Apart from actually training of course... although Bridge does put up swim sets for us to do during our own time in the week.

It's quite hard typing with just left hand and thumb of right hand, which is what I'm trying to do having hurt my fingers in water polo match today... :-( In fact not really in the match, didn't actually make it that far, hurt them during warm up, then when they started going swollen and slightly purpley Line sent me off to put ice on them, then I just sat out of the match. Which meant I went all the way to London not to actually play, but I didn't really mind because I have a cold and my back hurt from landing badly in trampolining yesterday, so I wasn't particularly keen on playing anyway, and it was fun watching. They lost 6 - 9 to London Otter, which wasn't at all bad since Otter are a good team (they're not a uni team either, they're a proper club) and we were also playing a weakened side without Bridge or Maxi who are two of our best players. Anyway, I shall now stop trying to type, finish my last bit of packing (why do I leave everything to the last minute..?) and go to bed. Oh bother, I've packed my toothbrush and toothpaste... will have to go delving...
