We lost :-( But we did good so never mind :-) That was our first race, Emma Sprints, we raced twice and lost both. First we were v Emma 2, and they got a head start because they're Emma and it was their race, but they were just faster than us anyway. Second we were v Peterhouse, they got off to a quicker start but we were catching up most of the way, but they had a sudden spurt of speed near the end. They had really messy technique though - we rowed better really! But I saw a kingfisher - really good view! Was great! Although slightly surreal... 'I'm sitting in a boat watching a kingfisher perched closer than I've ever seen one before, and no-one else is remotely bothered...' we have another race on Friday - Clare novices.

Sad to hear you lost, but you got some enjoyment out of it anyway. Hope the next race brings more luck.

Just realised I haven't been keeping this at all up to date! Clare Novices went really well, we raced Friday before last, first against Maggie Scum (LMBC) and won, then against Selwyn, and won again! Hang on, I've already written this somewhere haven't I... not sure where but I remember typing it in! Maybe it's in 'uni'...

Ah yes, there it is! Anyways, I didn't mention Fairbairns, which happened on Thursday. We crashed out of the race. Got in the way of a boat trying to overtake us, so they crashed into us but it was our fault so we weren't allowed to complete the race. Which was slightly annoying; about 2 hours of queueing, marshalling, waiting, and freezing to death to only get half way down the course... oh well... anyway, that was our last novice outing! We're seniors next term! Eek! Well those of us who are carrying on are anyway. I am. Although I fully appreciate that this may be a bad idea. Yay even more earlies...

all sounds fun! one of my flatmates does rowing but he hasnt been in a while, dont think he has since he ate rather a lot (as in 2 chicken kievs, about 5 slices of toast, loads of waffles and beans) before rowing once, the session was in the swimming pool and needless to say he felt RATHER ill after!

A rowing session in a swimming pool??! What on earth?! Are you sure you don't mean canoeing/kayacking? You can't possibly row in swimming pool! And I'm not too sure about 'all sounds fun' - we were pretty annoyed at not getting to finish the race. Ooh, if you're interested Amy Blessington's crew, Homerton, came fourth! Which is great! Especially since Homerton aren't even a particularly boaty college; normally it's the job of LMBC, First and Thirds, Emma, Tit Hall (supposedly if you look back through records throughout the centuries, we're still pretty good now but not as great) maybe Queens, maybe Caius etc to come top of everything; Homerton don't normally come anywhere near top!

Ah, I see... as in just a swimming session for stamina, kind of thing? Indeed, we were all OK; they crashed into us and that made us crash into the the bank but no-one was hurt, including TH3 (our boat); we just sat there while all the other boats raced past before we could get off the bank, spin, and row back down to our boathouse. Although that was easier said than done, because in the process of crashing we had got stuck on the bank and couldn't get free; we kept trying to push off and scull off and take back-strokes, with Cat alternately looking concerned and laughing at us from the safety of the bank! Then rowing back down everyone could see that we had crashed out of the race, because we were back too early; it was like the row of shame... there was another boat shortly after us though who also must have crashed out just past us!

Like the other night I had a flower which i had got from the ball and when we went to livingstones after and the flower had died by then so i turned around and threw it over my sholder! It kinda landed in this guys's hair :S but we had a great convo! so yes! the more random the better at meeting people! it gives you something good to look back on and laugh at later on!

Sounds a little bit like my new year!! the resort we were in puton a gala dinner with entertainment etc and we all got a goodie bag and in them were these like rolled up paper balls! And then someone decided to start throwing them at people and all hell broke lose! It was like being in a war zone!!! Hehe! All the kids were running round trying to collect as many of these balls as possible! We were given like cardboard witches hats so they were filling them up with these balls! Me, my mum and dad were having a battle with this family on the table behind us, mainly the dad! At one point we gathered loads together and then my mum went behind him and my dad and I in front and then all chucked about 30 of these balls at him!!!!!!!! You should have seen his face! And then we saw him in the lobby later on and he was saying "why did you guys keep throwing those balls at me?!" and we just said "we were returning them from whence they came!" hehe! great crack!
